POLITICAL TURMOIL IN TRIPURA Bad Phases of Tripura Polity

Until 2013, when the Left front, led by CPI (M) and headed by Manik Sarkar formed the government in Assembly election by defeating Tripura Pradesh Congress lead by Sudip Roy Burman the Left parties seemed untouchable atleast in Tripura. On the contrary, the Tripura Pradesh Congress suffered a major political fatality when West Bengal Congress tied-up with the CPI (M) in the West Bengal on the eve of assembly election this year. Protesting the alliance with CPI (M), Sudip Roy Barman and many other political leaders of Tripura Pradesh Congress resigned from their posts and joined Trinamool Congress. The big victory of Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress over Left-Congress alliance in West Bengal and BJP’s historic win in Assam over Congress changed the total political scenario in Tripura. Very recently Tripura has witnessed another instance of political bitterness as clashes took plae between Tribals and local Bengalis, besides, the IPFT, also took out a rally in the city demanding ‘Twipra Land’ which added fuel to the fire. Even the political violence turns ugly when CPI (M) led Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) clashes with each other.
