To embed concept of peace, sustainable development and global citizenship in text book of core subjects for the school of Sikkim, Sikkim Human Resource Development Department (HRDD) has signed a partnership agreement with the UNECO MGEIP on February 18, 2018. The agreement was signed by Additional Chief Secretary cum in-Charge of HRDD Department, Mr. G.P Upadhyaya and UNESCO MGEIP Curriculum Head, Miss Yoko Mochizuki.

With this agreement, Sikkim has become the first state in the country to have Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and Global Citizenship Education (GCED).

The project will be implemented by the State Council of Education, Research and Training (SCERT) under HRD Department with third party partnership with Azim Premji University, Bengaluru.

The project aims to embed concept of peace, sustainable development and global citizenship in text book of core subjects especially Mathematics, Science, Geography and Languages.
