Nestle India to train street vendors in Meghalaya

Nestle India in collaboration with Commissionerate of Food Safety Meghalaya Shillong, National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI) launched the initiative in Meghalaya to train over 500 street vendors in Meghalaya.

The Launched was attended by Mr. Sanjay Khajura, Director Corporate Affairs, Nestle India, Ms. Sangeeta Singh, Head Street Food Program (NASVI) and Shri A. L Hek Minister of Health and Family Welfare Department.

Speaking during the program Director Corporate Affairs, Nestle India Mr. Sanjay Khajura said that the purpose of such program is to help and encourage vendors to delivers healthier food to tourist of people in the region. He added that the foremost aim of Nestle is to bring out positive behavior to the street vendors and also to collaborate with all stake holders towards bringing in positive behavior among the vendors in the State.

Meanwhile Minister of Health and Family Welfare Department Shri A. L Hek said that there is a need to trained vendors to ensure that they serve hygienic food to the costumers. All street Vendors in the State shall undergo basic training in delivering hygienic food and safety for both vendors and customers.

The project ‘Serve Safe Food’ was launched in 2016 to provide street vendors in training on food safety and hygiene awareness.

CoMSO to go ahead with agitation against Government

The Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organizations (CoMSO) has decided to launch agitations against the state government’s failure to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system to check influx and illegal immigration into the state.

Speaking after a meeting with Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, CoMSO Chairman and Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) President, Robertjune Kharjahrin said ILP is the only mechanism to tackle influx in the State especially after the statement made by the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah that the Centre would soon implement the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) as well as the publication of the Assam’s NRC list.

He said the group of organizations have from time to time met and submitted suggestions to the state government through the chief minister and deputy chief minister on the need for strong law to protect the identity and interest of the indigenous people in the state. The Chairman said that CoMSO have been demanding the Government to implement the ILP by way of bringing amendment to the Meghalaya Residents Safety Security Act (MRSSA), 2016 but the government is not even ready to discuss the Bill in the Assembly.

Training programme on the Role of Prosecution in Criminal Justice System

A One day training programme on the "Role of Prosecution in Criminal Justice System"  organized by the Meghalaya State Judicial Academy (MSJA) was organised today at the Conference hall, High Court of Meghalaya, Shillong.

The programme was attended by the Judicial Officers, Public Prosecutors, Assistant Public Prosecutor and Doctors from across the State.

Director of Meghalaya State Judicial Academy (MSJA)  Smti M. B. Challam in her welcome address highlighted the role and responsibilities of the public prosecutors. Besides protecting the interest of the victim, Smti Challam reminds the participants about the aim of the public prosecutors is to protect the interest of the government.

The topics for the day long programme are Pre-trial stage, arrest, remand, bail, filing of charge sheet and presenting of prosecution case, Post trial stage - appreciation of evidence and Medical Jurisprudence. The resource persons for the programme include Shri K. Prasad, Additional SP, Ri Bhoi District, Smti Yorika Shylla, Advocate, Dr. M. Sangma, MD, Forensic Medicine, Junior Specialist, Office of DMHO, East Khasi Hills and Smti C. Rymbai, Advocate.

Mawphlang Labour Union concern over growing of illegal labourers

The Mawphlang Labour Union today laid out certain guideline for Non-Tribal Companies and Contractors functioning in Mawphlang area.

Speaking during the press conference General Secretary Rickson Nongseij said that after the Government of Assam release the NRC many labourers have come to Meghalaya to seek employment especially in Mawphlang area. Till date the Union has detected over 30 illegal immigrants who are working in construction sites without valid NRC documents. Therefore the Union has seek support from both District Council and Police Department to check the growing of illegal labourer in the area.

Meanwhil Khamborlang who is the Sport Secretary said that Company and Contractor from outside the State who took project in the region should first and foremost employ only local youths. He also said that Company should obtain up to date ‘Trading license’ from the District Council and also ‘NOC; from the Hima and will have to submit all up to date certificates to the Office of the ‘Labour Union’ in Mawphlang. Besides the guidelines the Union will conduct checking on daily basis.

The Union also urged local contractor to refrain from employing non tribal.
