Opposition political parties of Sikkim unitedly opposed the implementation of ‘One Nation One Ration Card’ (ONORC) in the State. Opposition parties said that with the implementation of ONORC violates Article 371F, a special provision of the Sikkim. Opposition political parties said that the scheme saying it will violate Article 371F of the Indian Constitution and open migrant settlements in the state. Opposition parties and other social organization also demanded discussion in Sikkim Legislative Assembly.

The Chief Ministers of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma and Meghalya Conrad Sangma decided to adopt a "pragmatic approach" to amicably resolve the longstanding inter-state border dispute between the two states. The chief ministers of both the states met at Shillong with Conrad Sangma claiming 12 disputed places belonging to Meghalaya while Sarma justified with documents that those places belong to Assam. After detailed discussion, both the governments decided to move from status quo to solution, according to an official source. Both states have decided to form three-member committees on each side, which will be headed by Cabinet Ministers. It was agreed to discuss all the 12 places one by one and review claims, if possible, both the Chief Ministers will visit all the places.

It is really annoying that Assam’s border disputes with its four neighbouring States, Mizoram, Nagaland, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh,   still continue even in this era of globalisation. But the bickering states should understand that inter-State development is possible only if they far from doing so over boundary, and without further delay come forward to resolve the contentious issues among themselves amicably and with a give-and-take spirit. Our impression is that if the decades-old nagging problem is clinched once for all, the most-elusive peace and harmony will prevail along the disputed borders that are all the more essential for facilitating Inter-State trade and Commerce and the success of the Act East Policy.

Nagaland became opposition less with Naga People's Front (NPF) joining the government. The new nomenclature of the Government will be called Nagaland United Government (NUG). A resolution has been passed by all parties concerned including the BJP, which is in alliance with Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio’s NDPP that the government in Nagaland will now be one without any Opposition. The 60-member Nagaland Assembly now has no MLA in the Opposition.

Assam is marching towards peace under the able leadership of Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma. The recent accord is the step in that direction. The historic Karbi Anglong Accord signed is a tripartite agreement between the Assam government, the six factions of the Karbi and the government of India. According to the accord, the armed groups shall shun the path of violence, surrender their weapons and disband their organisations within one month of the signing of the agreement. All camps occupied by these groups shall be vacated right after. As per official records, thousand militants would return to the mainstream and lay down more than 300 sophisticated arms they possess. As per the report the former militants submitted a total of 338 weapons, including 8 light machine guns with 11,203 bullets, 11 M-16 rifles and 58 AK-47 rifles so far.

 Violence on the Independence Day

The day ‘15 August’ occupies a special place in the heart of every Indian. On this specific day, the whole country celebrates the Freedom from the foreign invasion, hoisting flags, honoring the freedom fighters and celebrating the patriotism encrypted within each of us. But Meghalaya, a part of the Northeast state India was grueling with violence on the death of the leader not the freedom fighter but the ‘ex-militant leader’.

Few questions had been brewing around…Was it necessary to conduct funeral on the Independence Day? Marching ahead with the black flags instead of the country’s tri-color flag? Or was it necessary to be so aggressive on the death of the militant who was once responsible to form the militancy group, engaged into extortion and taking innocent lives. But yet his demise was chosen to be mourned on the National Day.

The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed the departments of home, education, health, women and child development, etc., to draw up a list of programmes.
