SANTI PADA ROY
Santi Pada Roy, an octogerian freedom fighter of Dhubri town is still leading an active life at the age of eighty plus. He is associated with numerous social organizations of the town and district and plays his part in their activities.
Being a student leader, he jumped into the country’s freedom movement and was imprisoned several times. An ardent follower of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, he never compromised with the ideology and principles of Netaji.
Roy is perhaps the only torch bearer of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose in lower Assam who heads a central body of Netaji Birth Day Celebration Committee in Dhubri which spreads the massage and ideology of Netaji.
When asked as to what differences he has seen over the last 62 years of our country’s independence, Santi Pada Roy who lives in ward no VII of Dhubri town said that it is mainly the erosion of social and moral values in the society. “The present political environment means money and muscle power while the main issues have been thrown to the back-burner. Who cares for the ideology and philosophy of Netaji? Had Netaji liberated the country from the clutches of the British, India would have been a different country,” Roy said.
