'Meghalaya Kurash wrestling' team to participate in Jharkhand

Member of Meghalaya ‘Kurash Wrestling’ team which consist of eight participants will participate in the National sub-junior & cadets ‘Kurash’ Championship which will be held in Jharkhand from 14th to 17th May 2018. Kurash is a form of folk wrestling practiced in central India. The wrestlers will have to use a towel to hold their opponents, and their goal is to throw their opponents off the feet.  Lyngdoh Nonglait, Bobita Ray, Derick Marbaniang, Kitboklang Dkhar, Daman Nongsiej, Antonio Lyngdoh, Richfield Wahlang, Sylvian Enrique Kharkangor.

The team is lead by Phyiona Nongbet and Balamphang Kharkongor as Manager and Coach respectively of the Meghalaya Kurash Association.

Their heart swells with happiness after struggle, strife and sweat flash victory. It is a proud feeling to stand on the podium to receive a medal for the country. The mission has finally been accomplished after the fall of first bit of national anthem followed by receiving a thundering ovation from the crowd. And Indian sports brought stupendous success at XXI Commonwealth Games 2018 that has brought cheers to 1.25 billion people. With 66 medals (26 Gold 20 Silver 20 Bronze) our nation reached the third position behind Australia and England in the medal table. The success story has begun with Shooting (7 4 5), Wrestling (5 3 4), Weightlifting (5 2 2), Boxing (3 3 3), Table Tennis (3 2 3), Badminton (2 3 1), Athletics (1 1 1), Squash (0 2 0) and Para Power Lifting (0 0 1). At CWG Glasgow 2014 Scotland, our rank was 5th with a total of 64 medals (15 30 19). Surprisingly at CWG New Delhi 2010, we reached the second position with 101 medals (38 27 36).

MC Mary Kom, Sanjita Khumukcham and Saikhom Mirabai Chanuare the three Manipuris who struck gold for India in the recently concluded Commonwealth Games held in Gold Coast Australia. In fact weightlifter, Saikhom Mirabai Chanu opened India’s medal account with gold on the first day itself with her record-smashing performance in her 48kg weight category. The 23-year-old weightlifter pulled off a clean lift in the clean and jerk, lifting 80kg, 84kg, and 86kg in all her three attempts.

Kiwi fruit or Chinese gooseberry is an edible berry with a fibrous, dull greenish-brown skin and bright green or golden flesh with rows of tiny, black, edible seeds which are found in the hills of Arunachal Pradesh. Kiwi’s fruits from Arunachal Pradesh are considered new to the people of the State or country as a whole since people have always preferred imported Kiwis.

Improvement of Education  in the State is Govt's top priority: CM Conrad K Sangma

Chief Minister Mr. Conrad K. Sangma stressed that there is need for overall development of the region in term of education sector.

The Chief Minister spoke during the occasion of the Golden Jubilee celebration of Shngimawlein Government Upper Primary School in Mawkyrwat. Conrad expressed his satisfaction as the school is moving in the right direction which has been possible only through the hard work and dedication of the founding members of the school and various personalities which have helped elevate the school to its present status.

The Chief Minister admit that there is a need of improvement in the education sector of the State and the Government will try to tackle all the challenges to improve the education quality in the State.

He added that the Government is working tirelessly to ensure that the right policy is implemented in order to bring out better quality of education in the State. On his first ever visit to South West Khasi Hills, the Chief Minister Mr. Conrad K.  Sangma said “there are certain areas and regions and districts in our state that really do need special attention and special care apart from education.

The programme was attended by Education Minister Mr.Lahkmen Rymbui, Local MLA Mawkyrwat constituency Shri Renikton Lyngdoh, Local MLA of Ranikor constituency, ex MLA Mawkyrwat Shri. Rowell Lyngdoh, Deputy Commissioner of South West Khasi Hills Smti I. Laloo, other government, heads of various organizations and people of Mawkyrwat.
