As September  approaches there begins a change in Delhi, morning becomes cooler, midday sun a bit friendly, humidity too pretends to be packing off  and a sense of an all pervasive  thermal  comfortability becomes visible  outdoors. I still remember P A Sangma was born on 1st September 1947and the remembrance takes me to look back and a montages of memories come crowding in: some events are still clear while some got blurred, perhaps the inner flash is partly diffused.

The biggest paper mill under Hindustan Paper Corporation Ltd in Assam’s Morigaon district has not seen any sign of rejuvenation even 6 years after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s revival promise.
 
New Delhi assured a lot to the mill employees from time to time but all these later became a nightmare to them as government is found inching towards its hidden strategy of handing the mill over to some private parties. The mill’s shutter remains closed for the couple of years. Three mill employees committed suicide so far as they are deprived from the money they deserve from the government.

Last night when I spoke to my friend in New York, she sounded distressed and disconcerted. She even shared with me that she felt suicidal at times because she hasn’t met her friends for weeks now. And all I could do was nod in agreement. But after I hung up the phone, I started analyzing why didn’t I or the females that I was in touch with in my vicinity, were never so expressive, needless to mention we all were equally upset.

When I started reading about lockdown and mental health, I found that women were more affected than men.

The Indian people all over the world, especially from Tamil Nadu were delighted when the U.S. Senator Kamala Harris, the first black and Indian American woman was chosen to be the running mate of Democratic candidate for the Presidency, Joe Biden. Incidentally, Kamala was born in 1964, to Shyamala Gopalan, a cancer research analyst from Chennai, and Donald Harris, an economics professor from Jamaica. She rose to greater heights as a District Attorney of San Francisco in 2004 and seven years later became the first female Attorney General of California. She was also acclaimed as a progressive prosecutor and played a pivotal role in bringing down the record of the death penalty in the criminal system.
