Lum Sohpetbneng (Meghalaya)
The legendary U Lum Sohpetbneng peak (1434 metres) – the navel heavenly umbilical peak, symbolises the deep rooted spiritual belief of the Hynniewtrep – the Sevenhuts people, predominating the West Khasi Hills, East Khasi Hills, Ri-Bhoi and Jiantia Hills districts of East Meghalaya who descended to earth from a Golden Vine Bridge, atop the Sacred U Lum Sohpetbneng Peak, to be crowned rulers of creations of the Divine Creator- U Blei.
U Lum Sohpetbneng is shrouded in an aura of sacredness and sanctity, being the repository of ancient wisdom and values, the fountain head of deep religious philosophy, jealousy guarding the spiritual belief, the territorial integrity and cultural heritage of the Hynniewtrep-the Sevenhuts, while the remaining Ninehuts-Khyndaitrep remained in their celestial abode.
The Golden Bridge signifies the human Golden Heart and soul in communion with the Divine Creator, in each worship, prayer, paying obeisance, reverence and divination. (An annual pilgrimage is held on the first Sunday of February).
