St Anthony’s College win Meghalaya First Sport Quiz Competition

St Anthony’s College Shillong won Meghalaya First Sport Quizz Competition organized by the Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA) at U Soso Tham Auditorium here today. The competition was organized as part of its celebrations of Olympic Day 2019. The college was represented by Ricarldy Dkhar and Roger V. Kharbamon. St Anthony’s College secures a total of 110 points, Synod College with 70 points and Women’s College 40 points to bagged 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

All together six colleges took part in the quiz which was played over 11 rounds and which covered a range of brainteaser topics that provided plenty of fun for the participants and audience alike. East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Matsiewdor War Nongbri was the chief guest on the occasion.

MCTA accused College governing body of discriminating teachers

Members of the Meghalaya College Teachers Associations (MCTA) alleged the Governing body of St Edmund Colleges of discriminating the Teaching Faculty by setting different rules and regulation in the college. General Secretary of MCTA Professor Amanda Basaiwmoit this act of the governing body is a violation of the fundamentals rights of the teacher’s individually. She added that no Governing body can make different rule for teachers who performed the same duty with same qualification employed by the same institution. The Association will seek the intervention of both Minister of education and Director of education said Professor Batskhem Myrboh who is the Joint Secretary of MCTA.  

Professor Shiv K Pradhan Joint Secretary Academics with NEHU Matters said that such steps by the Governing Body of any college will led to the feeling of discrimination the teaching faculty of teachers. These separate rules led to differences of salaries among teachers.

Shillong Doctors show solidarity to protesting Doctors in WB

The Indian Medical Association's today hold a nationwide doctors' strike in solidarity with the protesting doctors in Kolkata.  However Emergency and casualty services, continue to function. Similarly Doctors in Shillong in order to show their solidarity to protest doctors in West Bengal. Three Hospitals in Shillong which includes Woodland, Nazareth and North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) Hospital took part in the protest.

Junior doctors in West Bengal are on strike since 11th June after two Junior Doctors were attacked and seriously injured by relatives of a patient who died at the NRS Medical College in West Bengal.

Youth drowned in Ribhoi- District

One 21 years old Derick Kharpran of Nongkhriam Block Nongthymmai drowned in the Umdkuh Thwei Diengngan river situated in Sohliya Ri-bhoi District. According to reports the youth along with 5 other friend went for swimming in the river and suddenly lost control and drown in the river. The body of the deceased was retrieved by the Search and Rescue Team of the Fire Service from Shillong. The body was sent for post mortem in Nongpoh Civil hospital.

Tlanding Wahlang the fastest ultra runner of India

 

Tlanding Wahlang is farmer from Shngi Mawlein village in Mawkyrwat of South West Khasi Hills District of the Northeastern State of Meghalaya who has a passion for running from his childhood. He is now a noted ultramarathon runner who got to represent India at the Ultra Marathon in Portugal. After his victory at the 72 km Mawkyrwat Ultramarathon in the year 2018, the Run Meghalaya Association (RMA) which is a non-profit organization decided to sponsor Whalang’s expenses for whenever he received an opportunity to represent Meghalaya in other parts of the country and even abroad.

Recently Tlanding took part in the World Trail Championships which is more than 42 Km and with various obstacles on the way. The race was held in Portugal in which he came 129 from among 411 runners both woman and man. Tlanding was in fact the fastest runner from Indian team which consists of 5 members. Expressing his experience Tlanding said that he has never come across such challenging obstacles in any marathon, there were steep, slope and bridges made up of woods etc. Due to his injuries Tlanding was not able to continue his running and have to walk for 10 km to the finish line. Though Tlanding could not win this year but he is still determine to continue and try to win in 2020.
