“Great things happen to those who don’t stop believing, trying, learning, and being grateful"- Harnaaz Sandhu

After 21 long years, the Chandigarh-based model, Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu has made the India proud by winning the Miss Universe crown 2021. She conquered the crown defeating contestants from 80 countries around the world. The 70th edition of the pageant was held in Eilat, Israel. Harnaaz Sandhu,  was crowned by her predecessor Andrea Meza of Mexico, who won the pageant in 2020. While Paraguay's Nadia Ferreira, 22, finished second, South Africa's Lalela Mswane, 24, came third. The crown was presented to her by previously reigning Miss Universe Andrea Meza from Mexico. 

Its also a privilege that t he selection committee panel included actor and Miss Universe 2015 Urvashi Rautela from India, including Adamari López, Adriana Lima, Cheslie Kryst, Iris Mittenaere, Lori Harvey, Marian Rivera and Rena Sofer.

A social concern related to women is making headlines across the country regarding the proposed bill for raising the legal age of marriage for women from the present 18 years to 21 years, incidentally the same age as for men. The Union Cabinet has decided to clear the Bill which seeks to raise marriage age of women from 18 to 21.  Following the Cabinet’s approval, it is expected that during the ongoing winter session of Parliament, the government will bring in an Amendment to the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, and consequently bring amendments to the Special Marriage Act and personal laws such as the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955, the 1872 Indian Christian Marriage Act, the 1936 Parsi Marriage and Divorce Act etc.

On Saturday, the fourth of December 2021, in Nagaland’s Mon district, a group of eight coal miners, returning home on a pick-out truck after days of mining suddenly came under indiscriminate firing, killing six on the spot, including the driver and seriously injuring two others. Indian Army’s elite unit, the 21st Para Special Forces Regiment, mistook the civilian miners for armed militants of NSCN (K) and ambushed them on the road between Oting and the nearby village of Tiru, near the international Indo-Myanmar border. The Army later claimed that they had laid the ambush for armed militants, acting on intelligence inputs of movement of NSCN (K) cadres in the district.

With a view to instill inspiration of spirituality and restore the ancient glory of Indian culture, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor to public. It was the vision and concept of Modi to make the Kashi Vishwanath temple more splendid and grand. Addressing mammoth gathering on the historic occasion, the Prime Minister urged Indians to make three resolutions for the sake of the country: Swachhta (cleanliness), Srijan (creation), and continuous efforts for Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India).

Bodoland officially the Bodoland Territorial Region is an autonomous region in Assam of Northeast India.  Blessed with the beautiful landscape & wildlife sanctuary, it is surrounded with beautiful forests of flora and fauna. The region is one of the most underdeveloped and backward regions of India.  The economy is largely agricultural based but is lagging behind in urbanization and development. To have a closer analysis reason to the initiatives taken by the department of Bodoland Tourism, Eastern Panorama met Dr Dharma Narayan Das, the Executive Member of the Tourism Department of Bodoland Territorial Region who is responsible to look after the development of Tourism.
