Meghalaya will host National Games in 2022. This will also be the year when Meghalaya will complete 50 years of its constitution.
Development of bamboo in North East has vast scope but development is restricted here because of restrictive regulations regime. Focus of the State government should be good governance. Meghalaya has the capacity to be the role model for many small states in the country. The wave which was started after Assam election is now showing that it will start to show up in Meghalaya too.

Expectation for answers to many questions from PM Narendra Modi visit to the capital Shillong

At long last, the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to capital Shillong, for the second time, was expected by the people. This time of course, many have questions and hopes, that he would bring along with him many answers to many questions, particularly pertaining to Meghalaya, not only for this period of elections, but also for the projected future days and years. The Prime Minister need to impress upon the people, not only with rosy promises but to bring about a greater and sincere understanding between Shillong and far away New Delhi. There are questions that the Constitution of India, has to be re-visited, regarding the strengthening of traditional grass root administration, so that development efforts can be fruitful, otherwise all would be futile.

The Prime Minister not only happens to be the leader of the Nation, but also the present ruling party.

A.T Mondal welcomed by the opposition leader Donkupar Roy

There was an expectation that there would be daggers drawn in the fag end of the ninth legislative meet of Meghalaya, as much dust has been kicked up in the election arena. But things had cooled down, after the opposition had earlier withdrawn its no-confidence motion against the speaker. Instead praise were showered upon the speaker AT Mondal, even by the opposition leader Donkupar Roy, who congratulated Mondal, for creating history, by becoming the first speaker of Meghalaya from a minority community.

It was also unprecedented that members of both the ruling and opposition exchanged good luck wishes to each other, so that they meet again in the new House. Donkupar had concluded that, “whether we come back or not, we will continue to work as friends”. While the Meghalaya Congress Pradesh Chief D.D. Lapang, expressed his confidence that he would see all the present legislators from the visitor’s gallery.

Will Congressman A.L Hek return to his mother?

The spot light is on A.L. Hek, being the first ever member of the Bharatitya Janata Party (BJP), in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, since 1998, 2003, 2008, but later joined the Congress in 2013. Yet A.L. Hek had remained on record of having not been dislodged from the Pynthor Umkhrah constituency. Being a Congressman, it has come from the horse’s mouth that “Congress would not come to power in the next elections”. He predicts, that there would be a fractured mandate, which would lead to a post poll alliance.

Hek regard the BJP as his mother and the Congress being his wife. The question is would he return back to his mother’s home, the place of his political birth, or would he continue to remain with his wife? However he confesses that his heart is with his mother, his children being the electorate of Pynthorumkhrah, it finally depend on them to give the seal of approval, whether the mother is more precious than the wife?
