WORLD CUP CRAZE

People specially of Shillong are well known for their  craze  over  football,  especially  in  the  emergence  of  the  Shillong  Lajong  Football  Club,  which   has  further  taken  steps  in  lifting   Shillong  football  to  the  National  Standard  Level.  With  the  start  of  the  World  Cup  at  Lazhriki  Stadium  in  Moscow,  the  craze  of  the  footballers  grew  more  intense.   In  the  earlier  years,   the  fans  of  the  game,  during  World  Cup   would  go  down   either  to  Sohra  or  Mawsynram  with  their  TV  sets  to  watch  the  games  from  these  lower  elevation  areas,  sloping  down  to  Bangladesh.  Now  however,  the  story  is  different,  as  each  and  every  home  have  a  Direct  to  Home  TV  connections  and  can  relax  in  their  bedrooms  or  drawing  rooms.  In  the  opening  of  the  Russian  World  Cup,   viewers    were  also  enthralled   in  the  opening  ceremony of  seeing  their  favourite  stars  singers  perform,  including  Robbie  Williams of  the  United  Kingdom  and  Aida  Garifullina  from  the  host  country  Russia. Where in the opening game, the Russia thumbed Saudi Arabia 5-0 to win the opening game of FIFA 2018 World Cup and in doing so keeping the record of the host nations not losing their opening games at the cup intact.
