Fifty-three years ago, a band of Assamese youth led by Late Rohini Kumar Bhuyan and Atanu Prashad Baruah had planted a Seed of Hope to put Assam in the map of adventure world. At that time, no one had imagined that after half of century, it will become a source of inspiration for thousands of youth who wanted to sail in the ocean of adventure. The 53rd annual training of mountaineering was conducted by Assam Mountaineering Association in and around Guwahati recently.
It was the formation of Assam Mountaineering Association in the year 1968 who are now conducting its 53rd Annual Local Rock-Climbing Training Course on every consecutive Sundays in and around Guwahati. Though this annual training is being organized centrally in Guwahati, youths from every corners of Assam starting from the uppermost districts like Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia to lowermost Kokrajhar, Southern Cachar to Northern Udalguri are taking part as a result of AMA’s continuous effort to popularize mountaineering and allied adventure activities in recent times.
The trainings held at Rohini Kumar Bhuyan Memorial Rockfield, Hemkanta Talukdar, IFS, CCF, Assam was present as special guest. 95 trainees have participated in this mega training course, where more than 40 are women. Interestingly several married women also took part in this year’s programme, which has been considered as a significant development and changes towards our social system. Assam Mountaineering Association has deputed 21 instructors to train those newcomers.
