so that he can earn name and fame. And one question I would like to ask all the people who will read my comment. The question is “WHAT WAS THE GOVERNOR DOING 3 YEARS AGO?” SO who faces all these harrasments? ONLY THE CMJU STUDENTS.

The news story has maligned Sikkim University’s image. The names, facts and figures have gone wrong in this report relating to EIILM University.

We are deeply concerned about our Sikkim University. The writer should be prosecuted. Proper correction should be made.

Looks like the whole this is being orchestrated. First day Pallam Raju without going through the fact says that we must take action against the University. Second day within 24 hours an “expert” committee of UGC is constituted headed by some Assamese University head. Third day itself UGC gives a notification on its website. Fourth day Governor writes for dissolution. Fifth day State Govt. accepts the recommendation for dissolution in a record one day (R C Laloo you need to answer this - were you waiting for recommendation - hunting on someone else’s shoulder). Sixth day Governor recommends for CBI enquiry. In the meantime all the four key officials are arrested and Chancellor is made to run. THIS IS THE FIRST ENQUIRY IN THE HISTORY OF INDIA WHERE ALL OFFICERS ARE ARRESTED AND UNIVERSITY IS CLOSED WITHIN 42 DAYS. GOVERNOR SHOULD BE PLACED IN GUINNESS WORLD OF RECORDS.

It is my opinion that the scribes of Guwahati were debarred from meeting the Prime Minister in order to prevent a situation in which Dr. Manmohan Singh could have been caught on the wrong foot. It is no secret that little has been done by him to address the core issues plagueing the State such as illigel migration and floods. With no ready answer for his inaction to address these issues, I would not put it past the Prime Minister from instructing his ‘people’ from making sure that the press had no time to talk to him about these issues. This, I feel, is the sole reason why the scribes were not permitted to interact with Dr. Singh during his trip to Guwahati to file his nomination papers.

In light of the widespread destruction of the environment that is being caused by indiscriminate mining in the Jaintia Hills region of Meghalaya,  the move to ban limestone mining at Nongtalang and Amtapoh by the Deputy Commissioner P.S Dkhar is a welcomed and overdue move. Meghalaya, without doubt is blessed with mineral wealth and many have profitted from this wealth. However, as the saying goes, anything, done in excess, is a bad thing and this is exactly the case with mining activities in the Jaintia Hills. A person needs only to visit the mining areas in the region to witness the sheer destruction that is caused due to sheer greed and wanton efforts to amass wealth. The time has come for us to say - “Enough is enough.” The time has come for us to take back our heritage, a land which was once known as the ‘Scotland of the East’.
