It must be remembered that President Mukherjee, had also taken a similar step earlier by removing his titles like ‘His Excellency’ and ‘Mahamahim’.

In addition to this, Principal Secretary to the Governor, M. S. Rao had also informed that this removal of the Governor’s title will only apply within the State of Meghalaya. He will still carry the official tag when meeting with dignitaries from other parts of India and also foreign dignitaries. The Governor had also expressed his desire that during any ceremonial occasion that he is part of which is carried out within the State he will be formally acknowledged by the use of the words ‘Hon’ble Governor’.
