Mizo Student Unionof Shillong commemorates its 34th Annual Freshers’Social.

by the Guest Artist of the day Mr.Vanlalhlana,which was followed by various other programmes.During the first session of the function a speech was delivered by the President of the Mizo Students’Union,Mr.R.Lalramluahpuia.

In his speech,he had stressed on the inspiring motives of the Mizo Students’Union,which was to stand fast in safeguarding the unity of the Mizo students and also to strive in moulding themselves to be‘The Champions of Tomorrow’.He had also motivated the freshers to work hard during their stay in Shillong,the educational hub of the north east,in order for them to ensure themselves a brighter future.He had also stated that modernization in any place can be both a boon and a curse if the right measures are not implemented that is to say that students often diverge from their educational objectives and tend to indulge themselves in the entertaining ways of modernization,where he said that students are more at ease on Facebook,but are more like strangers to their own textbooks.

Following this,a speech was also delivered by the Guest of Honour and also the Chief Guest,in which they also welcomed and encouraged the new freshers to work hard and be determined in their current objectives as students.Before the first session of the function came to an end,there was also a distribution of meritorious award which was handed out by the Academic Secretaries of the Mizo Students’Union.This ended the first session of the function.

During the second session of the function,there were more cultural programmes which were performed by various students of the Mizo Students’Union,such as cultural dances, folk songs and a fashion show on traditional fusion.However,the main act that everyone was looking forward to was the selection of the Mister and Miss M.S.U.which had almost 22 participants.This programme had a lot of glamour and a feeling of excitement had poured over the audience.In the end, when the time had come for the proclamation of the new Mister and Miss,M.S.U.,everybody had their fingers crossed in the hope that people they knew personally would become the winners of the competition.As the new Mister and Miss M.S.U. were crowned the audience exclaimed their feeling thunderous applause as P.C.Liandingpuia was crowned as Mister M.S.U.and Maria Goretti as the new Miss M.S.U. Later,after the declaration of the new Mister and Miss M.S.U.was over,the function came to an end after the vote of thanks was proposed by the Vice-President of the Mizo Students’Union Mr.B.Lalrintluanga.

After the function had ended Eastern Panorama had the opportunity to meet the Chief Guest,Mr.Zodintluanga and ask him what he had to say about the students of the Mizo community who are pursuing their studies in Meghalaya.In response to our question,he stated that the students from Mizoram especially the newcomers should adapt to the culture of the people who are hosting them in their studies.They should learn to respect the customs of the local people of Meghalaya so as to maintain peace and harmony between the two.He also stated that he would like to thank the people of Meghalaya for being so hospitable to the people of Mizoram.

Furthermore,Eastern Panorama also had the opportunity of meeting up with the President of the Mizo Students’Union,Mr.R.Lalramluahpuia,after the show,and he had stated that he would like to thank the local authority for granting them permission to use the Soso Tham Auditorium as their venue.He also thanked everyone that had a hand in making the occasion a success.He stated that he was very delighted by the turn up of his fellow Mizo students and hopes that this show of unity among the Mizo will lift up the Mizo nation and forever uphold the Mizo national spirit‘Ram Leh Hnam Tan’,which means‘For Mizo Nation’.
