The Literal Word
The celebration was organized on the occasion of the National Education Day as an initiative towards teen courage and to promote literature amongst the youth of the city. Literature, reading and writing have always been an integral part of any culture around the globe and it becomes important to bring the youth today, closer to the literary world and inculcate writing and book reading habits, a release on the motive behind the said.
The inaugural day started with Dastangoi performances by an artist from Delhi, Nadeem Shah accompanied by Surender Dhingra. The word ‘Dostangoi’ refers to the art of storytelling, it is a compound. Likewise, Dr. Ajay Jha, Head of Department, Management Studies, SMIT, in turn gave a talk on the ‘Folklores through a Scientific Eye’ where he focused on collecting Lepcha Folk tales depicting specific behavior of a few bird species and assessing the scientific veracity or the observation.
On the 9th of November, a panel discussion on Publishing in Sikkim was also held. Mr.D.B. Rai from Eastern Panorama, Sonam Wangchuk Lepcha, writer, and Mr. Rupesh Sharma, Sub - Editor Himali Bela participated in the discussion. The celebration was attended by the students of Sikkim Government College, Enchey School and PNGSSS.
