Victory for Congress in Mizoram

earlier in the hope of overthrowing the Congress party, the unification of these two parties proved to be little but less significant when the results were in. What is more intriguing is the fact that even though a lot of fingers were pointed against the Congress with regards to various scams that had earlier been directed due to the Congress party, none of those alleged accusations  proved to be a factor during the elections as the results were in favour of the Congress party itself.

The Congress party managed to secure majority during the elections with a total number of 34 seats in their favour out of 40 seats, whereas the MNF won over 5 seats in the elections and another seat was won by an Independent candidate. The fact that Congress managed to pull off a win despite the deck stacked against them with various factors that many have thought would prove to be a critical reason for their downfall in the elections, is indeed a remarkable triumph. Their astonishing win did not only leave people who were not in their favour gloomy but had also baffled their adversaries. Even though the Congress Party did not deliver in many other states such as Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and even in our Nation’s capital, yet when they look at their performance in Mizoram they will undoubtedly have a smile on their faces for their performance.

As the election results were declared in Mizoram, it was found out that Pu Lalthanhawla from the Congress Party emerged victorious in two places from central Mizoram. It should also be noted that Pu Lalthanhawla now holds a record of being elected in the state assembly for a record 9th time. Another notable member of the Congress Party was H. Zothanliana, who emerged victorious from the polling station of Tialdawngilung which is situated in south Mizoram. Members of the Mizoram National Front who won included Dr. K. Beichhua who won with a number of 222 votes in his favour and also E. R. Larinawna who won a seat from Tukum. Apart from these names there were many others who had won and made themselves notable in their own respective constituencies.

Hence, the battle for supremacy in the state was a very interesting one to say the least. With the dawn of the unification of the MNF and MPC, there was a question in the minds of the people of Mizoram as to what was going to happen during the elections? Will this unification of the MPC and MNF pose as a major threat to the Congress party or will the Congress Party yet again be the ruling party of the state? It would be safe to say that Congress has yet again beaten the odds, Congress’s strive to win was relentless, overcoming obstacles and hurdles placed in their path in the pursuit for success. Their perseverance and endurance was indeed remarkable and do indeed deserve a complimentary ‘Bravo’. The wait for the results is finally over and victory is on the lips of the Congress Party in Mizoram.
