Web poll
Reeturaj Saikia I would not single out only NER as to be a place where the average women is not secure, it is a huge problem that is being faced by most of the Indian women this days in most parts of our country. In the case of NER, crime rates against women are increasing in some states where as at the same place we should not forget that Nagaland has one of the lowest crime rates against women in our country. But issues like witch hunting are there in NER which adds to this problem. Whereas a section of the society in all parts of the country has come out in large numbers in protest against such heinous crimes against women, but it just keep me worried why another section(both the so called educated or the uneducated) keeps committing such crimes. The laws are stricter nowadays but i don’t know why some people are adamant on getting it on the wrong side always. Until and unless we succeed in changing the mentality of such people, it is getting very hard to safeguard our female counterparts completely from such devils.
Ayan Chax if one simply reads through these lines in the poll, it would not take him a second to say a “Yes”.....but to dig in opinions with a yes or no is merely not going to settle this issue of gender discourse in India at a National Level..that’s going through ages like a legacy...
Bhowmik Tanumay I wouldnt say that its more in NE and less in other parts of India....we are residing here at this moment so we get to know every small detail of what’s goin on here....millions of cases like these are happening all over India, and around 70% of em dont come into the limelight, hence we remain ignorant....
“Has the Centre and State Governments done enough to curb the influx of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants into the NE India region?”
Nikumani Choudhury The central govt. has indeed failed on a larger scale to fence entire border alongside India-bangladesh. Although its a fact that the difficult terrain and geographically challenged areas have posed problems, but it has been decades to solve it. So that proves they are lagging behind. Once the immigrants enter India, among from the masses, its logically very difficult to scoop out particular persons who are not indian by documents, and send them back to their native country. The reason being the neighbouring country will not accept them back and their comes the problem of refugees and human rights. So the simple way out was the border, that should have been completed way back, but the central Govt failed. So take the problems. not the centre but the indigenous people.
Nikumani Choudhury Probabilities could be many, yes vote bank is a major reason,no doubt about that. Govt smiles and sits on the fence when such issues are raised from time to time.
Spondan Bora Assam continues to be plagued by Bangladeshi influx, which no longer is just a demographic issue but a strong political issue too. Yet the Centre has shown a tardy progress in its effort as over four decades, the issue remains the same. The State government on the other hand, has been found to machinate in using the Bangladeshis as a strong vote bank. The communal violence, as of last year, between the Assamese bodos and Bangladeshi Muslims in Kokrajhar should have been enough to trigger a full fledged action on the issue. But, looking at the outcomes, it is evident what could be expected from the ruling government.
