Your Say
about the traditional beliefs, but also about knowing who you are. This article constantly reminds me of my childhood days, when I used to go to Seng Kmie Mawkhar to learn and recite the Sneng Tymmen; which taught me a lot of things that can never be forgotten. The quote ‘Ieid Ialade Burom Ia Kiwei’ (Love yourself and respect others) is not practiced by all. We have become so selfish and self centered, that we even forget the purpose of our birth on this Earth. Thank you Ma Sumar, for writing such a beautiful article and it was very enlightening.

University owner arrested for issuing fake certificates
I have done MA in geography in 2010-2012 from EIILM. I have received the mark sheets of both years and provisional certificate. Is this valid for UGC NET JRF Exam? Please tell me.

We have received a lot of mail regarding the status of degrees awarded by EIILM University in Sikkim. Most of this mail is regarding the validity of these certificates and whether or not students holding these certificates are eligible to pursue further studies and also apply for jobs.
It should be noted here that Eastern Panorama is a news based monthly magazine which had reported on the arrest of the owner of EIILM University on the charges of issuing fake certificates to undeserving candidates. Eastern Panorama had reported on the issue which we felt was of pivotal importance to the students of the North East region. We are, in no position to tell students whether the certificates they were awarded by this University are valid or not. As such, we urge the concerned students to contact the University Grants Commission and post these questions to them. Maybe the UGC can provide you all the answers you need regarding the validity of your certificates and degrees.
In Transit
It is widely known that the North East region is the main transit route of illicit drugs to and from the neighbouring countries of India. The exposure of army personnel being involved in this business is a matter of shame to the armed forces and stringent punishment should be given to those found guilty of making money by poisoning our youth. High level probes should also be initiated on the allegations that the top brass and politicians of the region are involved in the transport of drugs through the region. However, keeping in mind that we are living in India, I doubt if anything along these lines will ever be initiated.

Water Woes of Guwahati
The article on the water woes of Guwahatians has hit the nail on the head. Guwahati is one of the many metropolitan cities of the country which are plagued by a shortage of water. It is a crying shame that this situation has arisen in spite of the presence of water treatment facilities and also the fact that the mighty Brahmaputra runs right through the city. Is there no end to the incompetence of officials and policy makers?

Career Options
This is a very well written article whic encapsulates the Modus operandi of ULFA in its recruitment policy. The youth of today are not stupid and know very well that militant outfits such as ULFA are money making businesses for the leaders. As such, it is therefore not surprising that ULFA and its kind are using subterfuge or plain lies while recruiting new cadre not to mention intimidation tactics.

Web Poll
The inclusion of a new page entitled ‘Web Poll’ is a welcome addition to an already wonderful magazine. Publications such as Eastern Panorama stand to gain a lot from the advancements of technology and this is one such example. However, it would be great if the subjects under discussion in the poll could be diversified. Let us promote the good that the region has to offer while also keeping in mind the negative aspects that are a threat to the indigenous people of the region. Let us talk about the culture, tourism and traditional wealth that the region possesses and not only about militancy, rape, murder and crime in general.
