Rallying the Forces

Rahul Gandhi also took a shot at the previous AGP regime in Assam and the NDA Government at the Centre when he said, “The kind of loot they did in three months has not been done by us in the last 50 years.” He also highlighted the law and order problems that were prevalent in Assam during the AGP regime and the failure of the State Government of that time to generate employment and disburse salaries to employees.

Rahul Gandhi also said that the UPA government has been a great help to the people and used the example of the social security schemes implemented during the last decade. “Assam has shown the whole world that revolution is possible with love, just like Mahatma Gandhi had said,” Rahul Gandhi said even as he stated that “Ours is a party of love.” He also urged the people of Assam and the Congress workers in particular to refrain from shouting slogans like ‘Narendra Modi murdabad’.

Rahul Gandhi however was unhappy with the low turnout of women at the venue and in this context he said, “I want to see a day when women will get equal power and occupy 50 per cent of seats in Parliament and State Assemblies. People say that India should become a super power but without empowering women, we can only be a half super power.”

This rally witnessed the attendance of thousands of people besides the ministers, dignitaries and Government officials who thronged the venue to listen to what Rahul Gandhi had to say to them. It should be remembered here that Narendra Modi’s visit to the State earlier on the 8th of February.
