Prioritising road safety

Altogether 2,400 persons were killed in Assam due to insurgency over a period of nearly 13 years from 2001 to 2014.Number of injured in insurgent attacks during this period is 5,519.Over a period of just three and half years from 2011 to June 2014 altogether 8,398 persons were killed in 23,990 road accidents in the state. These accidents also left 23,150 persons injured.

 

Compare the following two scenerios of Assam: 

While dealing with the problem of insurgency has remained the top priority for successive governments in the state and the society as a whole over the past more than three decades, these two horrifying pictures sound an alarm bell that it is time Assam should focus on other priorities as well.
