Come on India lets Football
Football crazy Northeast-normal football crazy india-way to go
ISL or Indian Super league has started with a bang. Our own version of desi football with videshi mix, ISL can take the game of football to unchartered territory in our great country. Already young people are showing their inclination to the game of football which seems to have a bright future in India if things go according to plan. What IPL or Indian Premiere League has been for the sport of cricket at the domestic level ISL is a thousand times more for the sport of football in India. If football has to grow it is imperative that ISL be successful. While is no stranger to football in our part of the country elsewhere people are still trying to understand ‘what the hell is an offside position?’
The AIFF (All India Football Federation) & IMG-Reliance ( International Management Group) have collaborated to make this idea a reality. The League comprises of 8 teams representing Chennai, Delhi, Goa, Kerela, Kolkata, Mumbai, Northeast United and Pune. The franchises are owned by the ‘who’s who’ with most important being Kolkata co owned by Atletico Madrid and Northeast United co owned by Shillong Lajong and FC Goa co-owned by Dempo SC. As is imperative for the development of the game, apart from the stars and big money houses, the people who have dedicated their lives to the game should run the show. In a recent interview with the press one of the co-owners of Northeast United FC, Bollywood superstar John Abraham mentioned that Shillong Lajong had the best youth development program in the country. This is something to be proud of for the entire region of Northeast India as Northeast United FC has players from the parent club Shillong Lajong as its main constituent.
