After 100 years of making firecrackers, a logo and an identity for the people of Assam’s Ganak Kuchi village

To separate their brand of firecrackers from the rival Sivakasi products, the firecracker artisans of Ganak Kuchi village from Barpeta district got an exclusive logo designed for themselves by the National Institute of Design (NID). Started by (L) Lakhiram Pathak in 1885 after going through the Bengali translation of a Chinese book on cracker-making techniques, the villagers mostly work with their hands with minimum machine-interference. The collective income of the over 2000 Barpeta firecrackers is expected to be to the tune of Rs. 70-80 lakhs.
