2014 - The year that was (Arunachal Pradesh)

in the news for many reasons.

1. Three new cabinet ministers were sworn in on December 24, 2014 at Raj Bhavan, Itanagar by Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma taking the number of minister in the Nabum Tuki led government to twelve. The new ministers include Anini MLA Rajesh Tacho, Borduria MLA Wanglin Lowangdong, Longding MLA Thanwang Wangham. Tacho has been assigned Health & Family Welfare while Lowangdong gets Women & Child Development, Social Justice and Empowerment, Parliament Affairs and Department of Tirap, Changlang and Longding. Wangham gets Civil Aviation, Science & Technology, Supply and Transport.  Surprisingly Health & Family Welfare minister Kalikho Pul was dropped from the ministry.

2. Ushering in a new wave of development through a slew of initiatives under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, Chief Minister’s Universal Health Insurance Scheme has been launched and will be operational during the coming year benefitting the people of state including state government employees. Beneficiaries can avail the benefits of the scheme through empanelled hospitals across the country. The scheme is being implemented by the Department of Health & Family Welfare of the state government.

3. The North East Games was held in the state from December 10 to 13, 2014, where Arunachal created history by winning gold medals for the first time in NE games since introduction of the games 28 years ago. Arunachal Pradesh won 31 golds, 20 silver and 24 bronze medals to finish runners up followed by Assam that won 29 golds, 25 silver and 36 bronze medals. Manipur emerged as the overall champion in the NE games by winning 89 medals-37 gold, 24 silver and 28 bronze.
