Purno Agitok Sangma: The Dream
While much has been and will be written and said about the Great Visionary from the Northeast India, we at Eastern Panorama would like to reiterate the dream he shared for the people of the region. His story is no less than that of a Hollywood movie in the making from an unimaginable rise from being a simple village boy to one of the most powerful leaders of the country.
However Mr Purno Agitok Sangma, had one goal and he worked tirelessly for that throughout his life. People of the northeast India should come out of their shell. No wonder even the ministers and leaders of the region have admitted to the fact that people not only in India but also parts of the world know about the region as ‘the place from where Mr. Sangma belonged.’ He had the vision of becoming the best along with his native place, his state and his country.
In words of Dr Jemino Mawthoh, MLA, United Democratic Party, Meghalaya who in the floor of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly talked about how Mr Sangma envisioned rallying of around 60 to 70 tribal Members of Parliament from across the country to rally for the cause of tribals so that their voices could be heard. The Leader of Opposition, Government of Meghaly,a Dr Don Kupar Roy stated that Purno Sangma in a meeting had said that the tribal people should work hard and ensure that rest of the country know us and that we become the best developed state of our country.
In the words of Ampareen Lyngdoh, Minister of Urban Affairs, Government of Meghalaya, Purno Sangma has left a legacy which is to be emulated. MLA, Paul Lyngdoh from West Shillong rightly puts it as Purno Agitok Sangma has left his everlasting footprints in the sands of time.
