The easternmost village of India In the Dawnlit Mountains

The land of dawnlit mountains, Arunachal Pradesh with its serenity and mosaic of cultures and people receives the first rays of the sun in the country and its often called the ‘Land of Rising Sun’. It’s a multi tribal state with different ethos and etiquette defining their simplicity and hospitable nature. The cultures too are varied, be it their daily lives or their food habits. The state is truly endowed with nature’s bounty from breath taking landscapes to places of historical importance. The state is crisscrossed by rivers and rivulets. Be it sun or rain,it has lots to offer in its sublimeness. There are just not enough words or space to describe Arunachal which beckons in more ways than one.

Nestled atop pristine mountains at an elevation of 1240 metres, Dong is the easternmost village of India located at the trijunction of China,India and Myanmar. Near Dong is the confluence of Lohit, a tributary of the mighty Brahmaputra and Sati rivers. It opened to the world when it recieved the first Sun rays of the millennium. Dong is a village of few houses about an hour’s trek from Walong which witnessed the Chinese attack in 1962. The spectacular view of the rising sun from Dong is something to witness.

Matrilineal System

Women empowerment can be learned from the northeast India. In Meghalaya, matrilineal system is followed. In this system the women inherit the property and the children take the mother’s surname. After marriage the men go to the women’s place to stay for the rest of their lives. Birth of a girl child is celebrated equally as that of a baby boy. Kudos to northeast India as the social ills of caste system, dowry or untouchability is not practised here.
