Although Nabam Tuki could not be reinstated as the Chief Minister, he had to sacrifice this coveted post and proposed the name of Pema Khandu from the rebel camp in the interest of the state and Congress party. Had he not managed to do that, the Congress government would have fallen again since Tuki did not enjoy the support of rebel camp. Interestingly, ‘Status quo ante’ ordered by Apex Court meant that any MLA failing to turn up at the Congress Legislator’s meeting would be disqualified by the Speaker at the time of floor test. As a result, the outgoing CM Kalikho Pul did not want to lose his assembly seat and returned to Congress with his supporters.
