NO ROAD LEADS TO TRIPURA When Lifeline became Nightmare
Very soon Tripura is going to be prominent beneficiary of Modi Government’s plan for expanding road connectivity in North Eastern Region. Tripura will be the hub of International Gateway of North East India as Indian cargo ships will access the Ashuganj and Chittagong port through Bangladesh waterways for International trading. For creating a better communication with Chittagong port, a bridge on river Feni is also initiated. Even more border haats are coming up in the state.
In this regard, NH-8 is playing a vital role for developing the whole idea of international Trade. Even Tripura is fullydependent on this highway as essential supplies like Fruits, Vegetables, Food grains, Medicines, Petroleum products, fertilizers are carrying every day. The work for conversion from single lane to double lane of 198 km long NH-8 (Agartala to Churaibari) is going on full swing. Initially Border Road Organization (BRO) was looking after the maintenance and development work of NH-8, but now the work of double lane is vested on highway division of PWD. Another 104 km road from Agartala to Subroom is left to NHDC.
