Drug Smuggler Drugs Police to escape

Assam’s most notorious criminal and kingpin of the entire drug trade of the region, Pakhi Miyan, was arrested by West Bengal police from Kaishali under Barackpur police Station in West Bengal’s North 24 Pargana district in April 2008. He was arrested along with three others with police recovering a large quantity of heroin and marijuana. The notorious criminal used to smuggle drugs from Imphal via West Bengal to other parts of the country. He, along with his cohorts often outfoxed the police by transporting drugs in vehicles resembling army vehicles. Pakhi Miyan is the prime accused in the sensational murder of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence officer Tarun Kumar Dutta. He is also alleged to be behind the murder of a scribe of a vernacular Assamese daily of Assam Mohammad Muslimuddin. Hailing from Morajhar in Nagaon district, Pakhi Miyan entered the world of crime by first associating himself with a car lifter gang. After shifting base to the more profitable drugs business, the notorious criminal also contested the last Assam Assembly polls in 2006 but lost the elections as an NCP candidate. Pakhi is currently facing charges on several counts, including three murders and 21 more cases relating to drug smuggling.
