Professor Choudhary calls for private investment in education
Professor Mihir Choudhary Vice Chancellor, Tezpur University, while addressing the gathering at the foundation stone laying ceremony of Royal Group of Institutions recently at Guwahati informed that almost 50,000 students from the region are moving out of the state every year and threby draining about 180 crore rupees every year from Assam. There is a need for 110 Universities in North East which the government alone can not bring. Hence Prof Chaudhary made an earnest appeal to all the businessmen to look into the aspect of investing in education.
It may be recalled here that North East Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy 2007 which has been in effect from 1.4.07 has not included educational institutes specially imparting professional and technical education.
The leading Trade and Commerce Organisation, FINER, in a letter addressed to Mr. Mani Shankar Aiyar has demanded that technical institutions imparting professional and technical education should also be included in the Industrial Policy and all fiscal incentive should also be provided to them. So that along with industrial development, their demands for technical man power is generated locally. It is understood that a large number of M P’s from the North East region has supported the demand of FINER.
