P.P. Dey, Senior System Analyst, Computer Center, NEHU, said this facility will profit the students of the region in doing their research. He said that researchers spend a lot of time on the computer looking for data and materials. With the use of this machine the researchers will be able to solve problems in minutes. P.P. Dey also said that this facility will be useful in weather forecasting where it will be able to predict the weather 24 hours in advance.
The Super Computer which is one out of six such machines installed in different places of the country hopefully will be able to address a wide range of developmental issues in the region.
The PARAM Sheersh facility consists of 4 TF peak Super Computing power along with 10 TB High Performance Storage Scratch space and 24 TB on-line storage, the facility has C-DAC’s indigenously designed and developed low latency PARAMNet-3 switch along with NIC, drivers and software. Back-up network based on infiniband is also present. The management capability is over Gigabit Ethernet. The system primarily has a lot of open source tools, software along with C-DAC’s own Resource access and Management Portal.
The health tool Cure@Home is a Decision Support System with a knowledge base of integrative (Allopathy, Ayurveda, Homoeopathy, Yoga) medicine to address the health care needs of a common man. It is a health educational tool, which can be deployed on personal computers or at Kiosks. It can be used at home, clinics, hospitals, health care centres, public places and schools. It educates on promotive health and disease prevention.
The software offers applications addressing requirements for each individual analysing his constitution and health status and also storing of electronic health records like a personalised diet plan, Body Mass Index (BMI) calculator, for finding whether the individual is obese or underweight and a personalised immunization schedule base on date of birth. This application can also guide the individual on the benefits of pulses, milk products, meat as well as application of yoga and exercises and also provides information on holistic solutions for primary care and home remedies of diseases and symptoms. Cure@Home also contains an encyclopedia to increase the overall awareness on various aspects of health.
