Mawjymbuin, Mawsynram (Meghalaya)
Mawsynram which is 56 kms from Shillong, is known for the giant stalagmite formation shaped into a “Shivalinga” found inside a cave known locally as ‘Mawjymbuin’.
Mawsynram became the wettest place on earth some years ago and according to meteorologists, now stands at second place in the list of the rainiest places on earth.
The awesome naturescapes on the way to Mawsynram with high rock cliffs on one side and deep awning ravines on the other side makes it delightful to drive along this route.
At the fringes of the town there is a big stalagmite in the form of a Shivalinga in the Mawjymbuin cave. The Hindus highly revere this natural rock formation and every year a pilgrimage is made to pay homage to this unusual formation. It is located below the road at the approach to the town.
