Boycott results in low polling in Manipur

Boycott results in low polling in Manipur

Thangmeiband Assembly Constituency, the home of Kasom Khullen SDO Dr. Th Kishan who was found murdered along with his two subordinates  has the lowest turnout of voters among 32 assembly constituencies in Manipur’s four valley districts - Imphal West, East, Bishnupur and Thoubal during the second phase Lok Sabha polling to the prestigious Inner Manipur Parliamentary seat on April 22.The reason for this is the poll boycott in the constituency by Thangmeiband United Club and Thangmeiband Meira Paibee Apunba in protest against the government’s inaction in the case of the killings. Polling percentage in Thangmeiband assembly constituency was 46.9 percent as exactly 12,550 voters out of total 26,719 voters cast their votes according to an official report. Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh’s native constituency Thoubal has the highest polling record of 89.6 percent. It means 24,139 voters including 12,897 females out of it’s total of 26,925 electorate came out to vote for their candidates. The overall polling percentage in across 32 assembly constituencies reached 70.67 percent at the end as polling was held amid tight security in all 970 polling booths spread across 32 assembly constituencies.
