Dr. Vandana Shiva noted environmentalist and author who was recently in Shillong delivered a lecture at the Dr. Homiwell Memorial Oration which was organised by the Martin Luther Christian University. Dr. Vandana Shiva formed a group called ‘navdanya’ which helps farmers to sell their produce, in fair market practice, use of organic seeds and also set up a seeds bank to store indigenous varieties of seeds. Dr. Vandana Shiva said she was shocked to learn that there are 250 million hungry people in India which is more than Sub-Saharan Africa, though it is one of the major food producing countries of the world.
