It is important to view ourselves as people of the North East to bring in development to the region, Agatha said at a felicitation programme, held in her honour at U So So Tham Auditorium in Shillong recently. While pointing out that the people of the region often disregard that they have a bond, Agatha said the region can prosper if people come together as productive citizens. “I am an MP from the Garo Hills, but people of the country identify me as an MP of the Northeast,” Agatha said, adding, “Therefore, it is important to extend brotherhood and family relations amongst ourselves to work towards the development of the Northeast and the country.” She also reiterated that the state governments in the Northeast have to play an active role in proper utilization of funds. The felicitation programme was organized by the North East NCP. State units of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam,Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, North Bengal, Tripura and others felicitated Agatha. Former Lok Sabha Speaker Purno A Sangma, Meghalaya Assembly Opposition leader Conrad K Sangma, Meghalaya NCP president Dr WR Kharlukhi, NCP MLAs and MDCs were also present at the function.
