Elephant meets a watery grave

and the involvement of poachers could not be ruled out. In recent times, the state has witnessed many cases of poaching in an around the parks of the state. Elephants are poached for their tusks. Although trade of wildlife parts has been banned in India, their demand in the market is increasing every day. Assam being a source of wildlife and its easy access and exits with other neighbouring countries has made it such that it has always been and important centre for such illegal trade.
According to the forester, the elephant carcass will be difficult to retrieve from the river since the water current is very strong and also the volume of water is very large because of incessant rains recently. However, they will try all possible means to retrieve the body and will send it for post-mortem.
