Another Militant Surrenders.

Another Militant Surrenders.

As a well planned strategy, the Intelligence team of FTR HQ BSF Shillong established contact with one ULFA militant, motivated and persuaded him to lay down his weapons and join the mainstream of the society. After long negotiations and persuasion, the BSF intelligence unit based in Bokajan managed to bring the militant to the mainstream of society. Manav Handique a SS Lance Corpral of the UlFA laid down his weapons as he returned to the mainstream. Prithvi Raj, IPS, IG BSF Assam and Meghalaya Frontier was at hand to accept Handique’s surrender.
Handique’s surrender comes a decade after he initially joined the outfit in 1999. He had received training at the 2nd Battalion of NSCN (K) base at Myanmar and was an active member of ULFA’s 28 Battalion.
The surrendered militant will be put through the rehabilitation process run by the state government and will be provided with  help and support to make him a responsible citizen of the country.
