Mizo Students Torch School Text Books

Members of the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (Mizo Students Association) recently set ablaze numerous school text books which they contend carry false information about the state and its people. The text books which are for students studying in the ninth standard were prescribed by the Mizo Board of School Education has a chapter on Mizoram which states many false facts such as Mizoram being located ‘between Tripura in the east and Myanmar in the south’ and also that Nepalis form a sizeable proportion of the state’s population. The inclusion of Chalmas as one of Mizoram’s clans has also incited much public outrage. The Inner Line regulation which is in effect in the state has also been described in an untruthful light in the book.
In a show of disapproval of all the untruth that is being taught to the students of the state, the Mizo Zirlai Pawl is calling for the omission of the particular chapter from the book.
