Baring a very few, almost all the spots being selected are more than a hundred years old with heritage and historical importance which need to be preserved for its antiquity and historical impotents.
The stretch of 4 kms of the road has spots such as Asom Sahitya Sabha Bhawan, Netaji Park, Green Nursery School on the Guru Teg Bahadur Road , Shiva Temple, Hari Sova and Chatuspathi Sanskrit Tol on H..N.Road, Boro Maszid on Netaji Subhash Road.
On the Tarun Ram Phukan Road, Sishu Pathsala Higher Secondary School while statues of Vivekanada and Queen Victoria and Brahma Mondir at Tetultoal accord the importance of the town.
Government Boys Higher Secondary School, District Library, European Church (now Ladies Club), Gurudwara Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Saheb Ji, Dhubri Post Office, Dhubri Circuit House, Dhubri Superintendent of Police office are on Piyari Mohan Datta Road
From the Deputy Commissioner’s Office to the century old Public Well and Sohid Bedi at PWD, there are many important historical places of interest which includes Bijni House, Tourist Amenities Centre, Dhubri Bar Association, a huge rectangular stone believed be hurled on Guru Teg Bhadur Saheb ji in the premises of the century old Dhubri district Treasury Office and the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office.
On the same road, Dak Bunglow, statue of Swahid Kushal Konwar, heritage wooden residential bungalows of divisional forest officer, deputy commissioner and superintendent of police , metrological tower, Panch-Peer Dargah, Nam Ghar, Asom Sangha Hall, Congress Bhawan, Sat Sangha comes under Beer Chilarai and Netai Dhubuni Parks along the river bank.
At a little distance on the same road, Dhubri Town Club which is over a hundred years old, the Dhubri Municipal Board and building of Lakhipour Zamindar (now Central Custom office) are closely located at the three corners of the historic Raja Prabhat Chandra Baruah Moidan (Gouripur Field).
When contacted, senior planning officer, Rajani Kumar Deka who is in charge of preparing the project on the tourist circuit said that, like separate tourist circuit for each sub-division of the district, an exclusive project on the urban tourist circuit for Dhubri town is being prepared which is nearing completion and which is important for the conservation and protection of many important places of tourist interest.
“Many monuments, heritage buildings, statues etc which are important from the historical and archaeological point of view are either decaying or at the verge of ruin and need immediate renovation as well as protection with proper back ground history,” Deka observed.
The Director of the North East Craft And Rural Development Organisation (NECARDO), Binoy Bhattacharjee who has been working relentlessly to develop the tourism in Dhubri district and various works going on to develop the the Asharikandi terracotta village into a rural tourism spot said that within a stretch of about 4 kms, people will have a glimpse of glorious past of Dhubri.
In order to develop this urban tourist circuit, all the heads of 42 spots must join hands, so that preservation works with beautification can be taken with necessary illumination at night.
“While some of the heritage buildings occupied by government officials are maintained, many monuments are at the verge of ruin which should be protected first or their history and importance will be lost,” Bhattacharjee said. He also added that the entire project will be submitted to the Assam Tourism Development Corporation for necessary funds.
In the meantime, with financial assistance from Dhubri Zila Parishad, Queen Victoria Park is being renovated by the Dhubri Lions Club while illumination works of Netai Dhubuni- Beer Chilarai Parks have been completed already.
Dhubri Deputy Commissioner, Jatindra Lahakar who has shown keen interest in preserving and developing the places of heritage and historically important sites said that many sites including the development of the Dhubri River front with view points and all tourist amenities by the Assam Tourism Development Corporation.
“Rs. 10 lakhs will be spent t for the development of the Srimanta Shankardev Sishu Udyan while restoration of the rest of the spots will follow as soon as the funds for development and restoration works sanctioned,” Lahakar said.
