Prashant Tamang and Amit Paul

These two young men from the Northeast states of Sikkim and Meghalaya respectively, were the two finalists in the third Indian Idol competition. Prashant Tamang, hailing from Monsong, Darjeeling walked away with the coveted name of Indian Idol while Amit Paul who is a resident of Shillong, Meghalaya was the runner up in the competition which showcased singers from various parts of the country. The two young men sparked Idol fever which was especially felt in Darjeeling and Shillong. They became ambassadors of peace and unity as people forgot all racial and communal barriers in their support of the two Idol contestants. They also further solidified the reputation of the Northeast as one of the musical hot spots of the country.
