What the states of North east can learn from Aruncahal ...

They want roads and railways (to which some states are opposed) and they do not ban things from outside their state thinking it will drain their economy. What the Arunachalese are doing is that they are opening up to better prospects in a very dignified way. They are sure and confident of their customs and are opening up. I remember during my earlier visit to Arunachal, when a young Arunachalese journalist asked the Chief of NHPC about the safety of the dams build. She herself was convinced and today the dams for power generation are on the verge of being a reality. What it indicates is that people are ready to find out the truth and verify for themselves. They have stopped paying heed to the fancy ideas of some pocket full of money making parties.

A state like Manipur which was termed as the ‘Jewel of East’ by late Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru has so much to offer. Politics has developed well in Tripura but has the common man? Meghalaya could have so much more but it lacks  innovation. Nagaland, the land of the mighty Nagas whose hospitality to visitors is unmatchable is now living in a hostile state for decades. Assam is progressing but some major changes are required to curb the unwanted incidents that keep coming up from time to time in the state. Mizoram is loosing its youth to drug abuse. The local NGOs and youth bodies are trying their best but still a lot of work is required. The ILP (Inner Line Permit) is causing some hindrance too .

Barring Sikkim, all the states need to adopt the policy of ‘Change for the Better’  if they want to be proud of not others but themselves. Lets hope for the best.
