& Music Festival 2008 to be held at Kamakhya Temple on January 14 & 15 coinciding with the Marg Bihu Festival of Assam.
While Padmashri Shovna Narayan will enthrall the audience on the first day of the programme, it will be Padma Vibhushan Sonal Mansingh who will delight the viewers on the second day. The other star performers of the second day will be Pandit Rajan and Sajan Mishra, renowned vocalists, both of whom were awarded Padma Bhushan this year.
Shri Bhabani Chandra Sarma, Adviser to the Kamakhya Debuttar Board, expressed the hope that the Kameswari Dance & Music Festival will be reckoned in the same status with Konark and Khajuraho Festivals and thereby put Guwahati on a priority spot in the tourist map of the country. He said that the Ambubachi Mela is the biggest crowd puller at Kamakhya Temple which attracts about 10 lakh devotees during the four day festival. Sarma was confident that the Kameswari Festival would attract not only but all lovers of Indian traditional dance and music.
Bharti Airtel had facilitated the visit and performance of German Rock Band Scorpions in Shillong in December 2007. The Band is renowned world over for raising social issues through their music. Now Airtel has come forward in support of the Kameswari Festival which confirms the Company’s commitment to promote cultural activities and provide the people of the North East with opportunities to witness and enjoy aesthetic events.
