New Speaker and Deputy Speaker elected
DAN nominee, Mr. Kiyaneilie Peseyie of NPF was elected 11th Speaker of Nagaland Legislative Assembly on March 18. Pro-tem Speaker Dr. Neikesalie Kire, NPF announced in the House the results of the Speaker election and informed that Mr. Kiyaneilie Peseyie (NPF) polled 35 votes, Congress candidate Mr. T. Sentichuba polled 21 and four votes were invalid, of the 60 votes cast by the all legislators of the 11 Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
On March 20 MLA Ralanthung was “unanimously” elected as Deputy Speaker of the 11th Nagaland Legislative Assembly. His election to the post was announced by Speaker Kiyanilie Peseyie.
In his address, Mr. Kiyaneilie Peseyie, Speaker, Nagaland Legislative Assembly assured the members that he shall make all efforts to be fair, impartial and judicious to all. “Party affiliations cannot diminish the responsibility and confidence the people have reposed each and everyone of us to act in shaping their destiny.”
The newly elected speaker also expressed gratitude to all the members of the House, for electing him as Speaker for the second time. “This shows the magnitude of your trust and confidence in me”, he maintained. He also said that he would strive to sustain the high tradition of decorum, decency and dignity that Nagaland Legislative Assembly has set as its rich heritage.
In his address, the deputy speaker Ralangthung assured all the members that he will try his level best to maintain dignity and decorum of the house with absolute impartiality whenever he will be in the chair. He also earnestly appealed to all members to extend full cooperation and promised to fulfill his duties in a dignified manner.
