New Dean of School of Information Sciences

Dr. G. P. Pandey, Professor in the Department of Mass Communication has been appointed new Dean, School of Information Sciences for a period of three years by the honorable Vice-Chancellor, Assam University, Silchar. Presently Prof. Pandey is also heading the Department. He is a sincere teacher, committed academician and innovative researcher.
Prof. Pandey’s contribution in the field of Journalism and Mass Communication education is outstanding and commendable. He has a number of research papers and books to his credit. He is also associated with various prestigious institutions and universities as well as professional research journals. Being the Head of the Department, his sense of devotion and commitment to the growth and all round development of the department is unique and noteworthy. He has initiated many innovative and academic programmes in the department such as the organisation of Communication Festival (Creative, Academic and Cultural Annual Mega event), setting of Compact Audio-Visual Studio, publication of self financed monthly Lab Journal entitled ‘The Impression’, promotion of Extension Activities in surrounding rural areas (puppet & Folk Show), special summer Training Programme for the benefit of the students in different media organisation, establishment of Job Placement Cell and M. Phil and Ph.D. Programmes. Besides, he also made every endeavour in order to open Mass Communication & Journalism subject at graduation level in two affiliated colleges of the university namely R. S. Girls; College, Karimganj and Women’s College, Silchar.
Prof. Pandey is a recipient of several prestigious awards such as Bhartendu Harish Chandra Award for his contribution to journalism and media education by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Govt. of India and was a student of B. H. U., Varanasi.
