Kripa foundation in the North East
Kripa Foundation has been a presence in the North East since May 1989. The Naga Mother’s Association viewing with the deepest concern the need for an effective rehabilitation programme, invited Fr Joe Pereira and his team to Nagaland. The team visited Kohima, Wokha, Mokokchung, Zunheboto and Chazonba. At the informal meetings and discussions with government officials, social workers, public leaders, law enforcement agency representatives, the gravity of the situation sank in no uncertain terms.
A vital relationship has continued till today with an initial understanding of Kripa model of recovery being assimilated by addicts and healers who were trained at Bombay and went on to pass the message of recovery. So far 103 patients have gone through a residential programme at Sechu, Zubza where Mount Gilead Home is located. The work at this centre is supported by a counseling centre at Kohima which undertakes home visits, supports NA and AA groups and facilitates Family Anonymous programmes. A prison programme for incarcerated drug addicts is also on the anvil.
