Star Brings a New Ray of Hope in Blind Eyes

“CSR is not about organization size or scale but rather a willingness on the part of the individual and the organization therefore to contribute for a cause. Size and number of people or the financials do not make a big difference if willingness is there”.
Indeed, a very tough task. Most businesses would certainly flounder in not being able to achieve at least one or many of those expectations. But Star Cement, the largest cement manufacturer of the NE India has shown the way.

The Governor of Assam, It General (Retd.) Shri Ajay Singh inaugurated the renovated & newly constructed structure of   Guwahati Blind High School, Basistha – Guwahati by Star Cement. The Blind High School situated at the outskirts of the city was set up  in the year 1978. The school  houses student strength of 82 and is managed by two Govt. bodies - State Education Department & State Social Welfare Dept. This boarding school lacked a lot of infrastructures & facilities and was also in a shabby condition.  Star Cement took up the task as an opportunity to return something back to the society under their Corporate Social Responsibility works. They have renovated the existing buildings & premises, constructed 7 new class rooms, 1 hostel room, developed the water supply & sanitation facilities & are keen to maintain this school at their cost. The estimated project expenditure has worked out to be Rs 6.5 lacs. Speaking on the occasion His Excellency Shri Ajay Singh said that this school  is 30 yrs old and has educated a lot of blind students in giving a proper  direction to their lives. He appreciated the efforts of Star Cement in undertaking such a  noble cause, and congratulated them for returning something back to the society in this way. He also expressed his feeling that this job  is a pioneer project and he hopes that the other corporate will follow this path too. Star Cement thanked the Governor for sparing his valuable time and boosting morally with his presence not only the students of the school, but also the organization to carry on with these sort of activities in future, for the overall welfare of the people of North East. Mr. Jyoti Agarwal (Vice-President, Star Cement) and Mr. Bhaben Burman (Headmaster of Blind School) amongst the other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
