St. Anthony’s Bags National Computer Award
It is another feather in the cap of St. Anthony’s Hr. Secondary School Shillong as this educational institution was recently awarded the 5th Computer Literacy Excellence Awards for Schools 2007 by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. This educational institution has maintained its reputation of being one of the premiere schools in the region by every now and then bagging awards for various achievements. This last one among a long list of other accomplishments is accompanied with a cash prize of Rs. 1.5 lakhs. The Principal of the school Rev. Br. Albert Longley Dkhar, accompanied by the Head of the Computer Dept. Mr. B.B Sarki received the National Award which was handed out by the Hon’ble Minister of Information and Technology Mr. A. Raja at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
The award came about as a result of the vision of the school to mould the students as the main role players in an e – knowledge based society. As part of this vision of e – learning, the school has installed Wi – Fi enabled Informaton and Communication based Technology (ICT) computer systems in all the classrooms, staffrooms, the conference hall, the library, computer lab and the administrative sections which are all connected to a main server. The school has initiated a novel e – learning project to revolutionise education which is financed by the North East Council. The school is also connected to other school such as St. Mary’s School, Sacred Heart Boys and Girls, St. Joseph’s School, Holy Child School, Savio Juniorate School and Auxilium Convent. The teachers in this educational institution are undergoing training to accustom themselves to e – learning so as to catalyse a revolution from a traditional to a modern mode of teaching.
