VC’s decision causes stir at NEHU

An unprecedented event has recently taken place in Meghalaya’s illustrious NEHU University. Sadly, this unprecedented event is a negative one and will undoubtedly tarnish the confidence in the competency of its present Vice Chancellor Professor Pramod Tandon. This is the first time since its inception that the faculty and staff of the university will have to go without their salaries for the month. This however is not due to any lack of funds. In fact, it is due to the controversy over the payment of the Hill Area Special Allowance (HASA) which was stopped by the Executive Council of the University. This move has turned the whole NEHU fraternity against him and the latter has demanded his resignation. They even went so far as to lock him inside his office for several hours as protesting teachers and non – teaching staff shouted slogans against him. It may be mentioned here that the HASA is paid to the faculty and non – teaching staff in keeping with the NEHU Ordinance OE 10. I is thus the contention of the NEHU fraternity that in trying to bring about its end, Professor Tandon has failed to protect the interests of the university faculty and staff and thereby, he has no moral right to run the university as he is not following the rules of the university itself.
