ULFA leaders freed
After years in jail, ULFA leaders Mithinga Daimary and Pradip Gogoi have got bail in all the TADA cases against them. The release follows ULFA chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa’s statement that talks and handcuffs don’t go together. But most of the top brass of the ULFA are still in prison. This includes top leaders like Rajkhowa, Raju Baruah, Pranati Deka, Sasadhar Chowdhury, Chitrabon Hazarika and Bhimkanta Borgohain. However, Commander-in-chief Paresh Barua is still sticking to his stand that sovereignty must be a pre-condition for talks. It is believed that ULFA cadre throughout the state and in neighbouring countries are adopting a policy of ‘wait and watch’ and their future actions will depend on the outcome of the talks for which the Home Ministry is preparing the ground.
